The University of Management and Technology (UMT) held a two-day exhibition showcasing the thesis projects of Fashion and Textile Design students. The event was organized by the School of Design and Textiles and featured Ch. Shafay Hussain, the Provincial Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Investment, as the Chief Guest.
A total of 172 students from the Textile, Graphics, Fashion, and Interior Design programs presented their final-year projects. The exhibition included a variety of designs such as clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry, and accessories. These were evaluated by judges from both the industry and academia.
Provincial Minister Shafay, accompanied by Rector Dr. Asif Raza and Prof. Abid Sherwani, toured the stalls and praised the students’ work. In his speech, he highlighted the creativity and potential of the students and stressed the importance of promoting their work both nationally and internationally to create more job opportunities in the textile industry.
Minister Shafay also noted that the textile sector needs improvement and mentioned plans to ask the federal government to lift the ban on cotton seed imports and reduce cotton taxes. He believes that these steps could significantly boost the country’s economy.
Rector Dr. Asif Raza stated that UMT’s School of Design and Textile holds this exhibition annually to help students advance in their careers. UMT supports students not only in getting a quality education but also in acquiring practical skills, leading to successful entrepreneurship in various fields.
