A Chinese apparel firm is investing in an industrial park project on the border of Lahore and Kasur. The industrial park will include modern fabric units, dyeing facilities, and garment manufacturing units focused on exporting sportswear from Pakistan to various regions worldwide, including the Americas, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific. This investment could potentially boost the textile industry in the region and enhance Pakistan’s export capabilities in the sportswear sector.
The project by Shanghai-based Challenge is reportedly the first foreign direct investment (FDI) in an export industry in Pakistan. The firm, known as Challenge Apparel since 2017, has been operating a garment manufacturing unit on Multan Road near Lahore. According to its managing director Chen Yan, who is also known in government and business circles as Karen, the company generated nearly $44 million in export revenue during the last fiscal year. This investment underscores the growing interest of foreign companies in Pakistan’s textile sector and could potentially pave the way for further FDI in the country’s export industries.
